Dr. Axel Thümmler received the degree Diplom-Informatiker (M.S. in Computer Science) in 1998 and the degree Dr. rer. nat. (Ph.D. in Computer Science) in 2003, both from the University of Dortmund. From 1998 to 2004 he worked as a Ph.D. student and research scientist in the Computer Systems and Performance Evaluation group at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Dortmund. In 2004, he continued his work on a postdoctoral position in the Modelling and Simulation group at the same department. From 2004 to 2006, Dr. Thümmler contributes to the Collaborative Research Center on Modelling of Large Logistics Networks, SFB 559, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. Since 2006, he is employed as Team Leader and Project Manager at dSPACE GmbH, Paderborn. His research interests include automotive control systems, simulation optimization, communication networks, mobile computing, and performance evaluation techniques.
